Coral Bay

Coral Bay is a tourist area about 6 kilometers (4 miles) North of Paphos. There are many hotels, bars, tourist shops, and one of the best sandy beaches in Cyprus.

Personal Experiences of Coral Bay

I have visited Coral Bay many times when vacationing in Cyprus - in fact we go there, either to the restaurants or the beach, almost every day when in Paphos.

The main street in Coral Bay (just off the coast road) contains a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and bars. The restaurants including many Greek restaurants, an Italian restaurant, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine. Many of the bars (and some restaurants) have entertainment such as live music, karaoke, or large televisions for watching football matches.

The restaurants which we particularly enjoyed in Coral Bay include:

Trattoria La Vigna (Italian)
Samisen (Japanese teppanyaki where food is prepared in front of you in a theatrical style)
Coral King (Greek).

Just after the shopping/restaurant area, the road dips down a hill, and on both sides are car parks. The car parks on the left-side of the road have somewhat unmade surfaces, but are closer to the beach. Note: The left car park actually has two levels - you need to drive your car down quite a steep ramp to get to the lower level, which is closest to the beach.

From the carpark you can walk down to a beautiful sandy beach. You can hire sunbeds and a sunshade if you want to, for a modest daily fee, but you don't have to - you can simply enjoy the beach for free, bring your own beach towel, etc.!

The sand on the beach is soft and great for making sandcastles, and for kids to play in. You can go in the sea for a paddle or a swim - the sea which generally has quite gentle waves in the tourist season (unless the weather is really bad).

The swimming area extends to quite a distance from the beach, and is clearly marked out by colored buoys. The water at the edge of swimming area is quite deep (several meters), and please also note that the swimming area is divided into two by the area used for launching watersports craft (see below). There are usually lifeguards on duty at the beach during swimming times in the tourist season, but of course, you still need to swim safely.

In the central area of the beach is a watersports kiosk, where you can hire a jetski, a pedal boat, or pay for a ride on a banana boat (a long thin inflatable boat that several people sit astride and which is pulled behind a speed boat), crazy UFO boat (a round inflatable which several people lie on and is pulled behind a speed boat), etc.

At both ends of the beach are cafés, which offer sandwiches, drinks, etc., and also contain toilet facilities.
